Environment Act – Have your say on future targets

As part of the new Environment Act, the Government is currently running a consultation on long-term targets covering four priority areas: water, air, biodiversity, and resource efficiency and waste reduction. The targets are due to be passed into law by November 2022. The consultation period has been extended and is now open until 27 June.

The Environment Act, which replaces and in some cases is intended to strengthen environmental protections previously preserved in EU legislation, was passed into law in 2021. As part of this Act, the Government must set long-term environmental targets. DEFRA is currently consulting on what those targets should be.

A number of wildlife, nature and environmental campaigners are challenging the Government to more ambitious. See this blog from the Wildlife and Countryside Link.

Responses to the survey can be provided either online, or by email, by 27 June. For more details visit the Defra website.
